Jeffrey Yumbla is a senior at Montclair State University (MSU) majoring in Molecular Biology and minoring in Visual Arts. He was born in New Jersey and has lived in South Hackensack, NJ since then. This is Jeffrey’s third year of undergraduate research, having previously done work involving enzyme kinetics and the influenza A virus at the University of California San Diego in the summer of 2023. Currently, Jeffrey works in a genetic toxicology lab at his home institution, investigating the effects of cobalt toxicity on fibroblast lung cells using an in vitro model. During the 2022-23 academic year, he was selected as one of 29 students nationwide to participate in the American Heart Association’s HSI Scholars program. He also serves as the President of his university’s Health Careers Program Executive Board. When he is not studying or conducting research, Jeffrey can be found training for marathons or enjoying a soccer game in the New York City area. Jeffrey seeks to further bolster his understanding of toxicology and its various applications across different sectors and learn how he can take lessons learned in this program to help those affected through a career in medicine incorporating toxicology.
