Bio

Esmeralda López is a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign interested in
pursuing a dual professional degree (DVM & PhD). Her interest in toxicology sparked when she
participated in the SURETox reproductive toxicology research program at the University of
Illinois. She hopes to implement her knowledge of toxicology as a researcher and animal
clinician. As an undergraduate studying Animal Sciences, Esmeralda’s focus has been to
become a well-rounded animal scientist by exposing herself to research, farm, and medical
experiences. On campus, Esmeralda is also involved with diversity initiatives as she is a national
ambassador for Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS)
and is president and co-founder of Minorities in Animal Sciences (MÁS). Esmeralda is a believer
that diversity and access to education will give rise to future leaders in STEM.
