Bio

Dr. John Buchweitz is an Associate Professor and serves as the Nutrition and Toxicology Section Chief for the Michigan State University (MSU) Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation within the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine. His research focus is on the development of novel testing strategies for pesticide contaminants in wildlife and drug residues in production animals. Accordingly, his primary emphasis is on identifying wildlife sentinels for public health and ensuring commercial food safety.

Dr. Buchweitz earned his BS in Biochemistry (1992), MS in Animal Science (2001) and dual PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology and Environmental Toxicology (2007) all from Michigan State University. He is an American Board of Toxicology (ABT) board-certified toxicologist, fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (FATS) and fellow of the Academy of Diagnostic and Laboratory Medicine (FADLM). He is an active member of the Society of Toxicology and mentors both graduate and undergraduate students.
